Mahalia - I Wish I Missed My Ex [Video]

Mahalia

Songstress Mahalia has revealed her video to latest feel-good, sing-along track ‘I Wish I Missed My Ex.’ The visuals take us on a trip to the sunnier climes of Los Angeles, for an exploration of the Highland Park neighbourhood in reverse.

Knowing the funky track needed a “big idea” for the video, director Andrew Litten decided to pay homage to the classic Spike Jonze video for ‘Drop’ by Pharcyde with the use of the reverse effect. Litten added a “contemporary spin” by hiring a “linguist from UCLA to teach Mahalia the song backwards which she surprisingly learned in a day.”

Expressing the all too relatable-sounding text messages received from her ex about needing closure, Mahalia reference’s fellow UK singalong crew, WSTRN, with similar lines and the same flow as their 2017 single ‘Txtin.’

Mahalia’s previous release ‘No Reply’ affirms the bitter and darker moments experienced during the breakdown of a relationship, whilst ‘I Wish I Missed My Ex’ brings a brighter, happier feel, showing she’s potentially moving on. Busy getting on with life post-breakup, now noticing, “too many missed calls, too many texts” and her responses are short and disinterested “hi, fine, sigh.” Go Mahalia!
