J Appiah - WYHG (Where's Your Heart Gone) [Video]

Back with another alternative love song is Hackney enthusiast J Appiah with ‘WYHG’ (Where’s Your Heart Gone). Using his home as a muse by taking inspiration from beautiful and abrasive attributes that characterise Hackney, J Appiah creates emotive music with ineffable appeal.

In a world inundated with romantic songs about fairy tale love, J Appiah’s love songs are about ‘wrong lanes, oncoming headlights, last-minute swerves, dead-ends, and flaming wreckage’. ‘Where Has You Heart Gone’ follows the same tone as his previous singles; born from raw, complicated feelings that are translated musically with the cross-genre production. Tugging on heartstrings with the ferocious combination of grunge-rock grittiness, hip hop melodies, and their common ancestor, rhythm and blues.

Alongside the track is the Lloyd Wakefield-directed visuals. Referring to different pop culture attributes across time and genres, the video uses a fish-eye lens to play homage to nineties rap groups while the centrepiece is a bold performance shot in a warehouse draped in pink fabric. The scenes are as chaotic as they are captivating.
