The heart of Africa inspires the world! Through its culture, the food, uplifting music and of course it’s uniquely vibrant and stand out fashion. It’s always a magical moment when highlighting greatness from the motherland and this is why you need to find yourself in Geneva, Switzerland for the 5th edition Afrodyssée African Trends Market next month, 14 - 15 June 2019.

Bringing together Africa’s finest designers, the Afrodyssée African Trends Market has been showcasing fashion designs and current trends for the past five years. With an aim to change the perspective of contemporary Africa, Afrodyssée contributes towards promoting leading designers and craftsman, to emphasise attractiveness and enhance international awareness and trade. Ranking as one of the top three fashion fair’s in Europe, more than 2000 guests are expected to attend the 5th edition.

Whilst day one (14 June) is an invite-only evening reserved primarily for boutiques and fashion media, the second day (15 June) consists of a full programme that is welcome to all:

The Market (14:00 - 00:00)

Highlighting 40 designers, showcasing their designs throughout the space.

Food Village (14:00 - 00:00)

Four African caterers will be on offer, providing an overall experience to the richness of African culture.

Talks + Workshops (13:00 - 20:00)

A number of debates and workshops under the auspices of the United Nations (UN), these include:

  • African creation: What are the major obstacles to its development? | Debate with Dadi Kouamé, Lafalaise Dion, Marc Posso and Virginie Darbon

  • The return of cultural property and African heritage | Debate with Marie-Cécile Zinsou, Marie-Laure Croiziers of Lacvivier, Boris Wastiau and Claude Grunitzky

  • Cultural appropriation | Debate with Hortense Assaga, Lamine Kouyate, Barbara Blanchard and Minsora Boya

  • The loop in all its states | Workshop hosted by Nancy Falaise and Sylvie Makela from Urban Tribes

The Photo Studio (15:00 - 20:00)

Guests will be given the opportunity to have their portrait taken by Marc Posso, with a unique African inspired backdrop, in fitting with the event.

The Fashion Show (20:45 - 22:15)

The highlight of the event is indeed the Afrodyssée Fashion Show, showcasing a handpicked selection of the collections and creations featured within the Market. This year, the following designers will be showcased: Kente Gentlemen, Hamaji The Nomad, Fekhanti, Bazarapagne, Black Market, Liputa Swagga, Olooh, The Blackprint, Wear Your Mask, Moshions, Yhebe Design, Threaded Tribe, Thousand Hills and Selly Raby Kane

After Party (22:30 - 04:00)

The event will then close with an after party, with a number of DJ’s spinning the best beats out of Africa.
