Ahead of the release of his highly anticipated debut album, East London’s Kojey Radical shares visuals for his latest single ‘Payback’ featuring North West London’s Knucks. The funky number is a song embedded in ‘Black cool’ and serves as true testament to Kojey’s character, confidence, and assertiveness.

Drawing a line through generations of Black artistry, this track is here to reinforce self-love and help discover that inner joy without any hesitations. In the video we see the dynamic duo in lavish surroundings, littered with expensive jewels and beautiful guests. Direction for the video comes from director Charlie Sarsfield, who also worked with Kojey for his sentimental number ‘Gangsta’. With the sharp production coming from Swindle, ‘Payback’ sees Kojey perform with poise, reclaiming titles, words and identity.

‘Payback’ is yet another good omen of what we can expect from the forthcoming album Reasons to Smile. Said to be a ‘love letter to hip hop’ that’s influenced Kojey, the album will cover confidence, pride, and identity and features guest appearances from Tiana Major9, Masego, Shaé Universe, Cashh, Kelis, Lex Amor, Knucks, Shakka, Wretch 32, Ego Ella May, Rex Life Raj and Kojey’s own mother.

“This is the first time I’ve done it to the scale and ambition of what I speak,” shares Kojey speaking on the album. “Previously it’s been ‘I’m warming, I’m warming, I’m warming up’. But I’m warm now – put me in the game.”

The record will be released March 4, 2022 but until then you can check out the video for ‘Payback’ below. See if you can spot some familiar faces.
