Jazz hip-hop collective Gotts Street Park have shared their latest single ‘Diego’, unionising sounds and influences to form one infectious fluid beat. The track is dynamic and dramatic, with expert layering that draws attention to the impressive array of talent the Leeds-based collective hold.

Drawing on retro soul, jazz and hip-hop sounds while seamlessly adopting their own contemporary techniques, Gotts Street Park gives us spacious psychedelia amongst meandering funk grooves on ‘Diego’. The release comes from their upcoming four-track EP also titled ‘Diego’ and to be released via Blue Flowers Music.

“Diego is one of those moments of letting loose in the studio,” Gotts Street Park explained in a statement. “We’d been catching takes of a tune we were writing in a session which required pretty intense concentration on our part. After a few goes, it can all get a bit much and we just started letting loose on our instruments before going back to the task at hand. Thankfully, Josh left the tape rolling and Diego was born.”

The EP track titles are all inspired by film soundtracks, revealing the creative and cultural intuition rife within the group and deepening our understanding of their capabilities.

The song ‘Diego’ comes alongside visuals showing a snapshot of Leeds through the lens of 2021 and inspired by the artistic work of Tomonari Nishikawa.
