Becoming the view in true artistic form is Toronto based soul and R&B musician a l l i e in her latest music video for ‘Coop’. Taken from her sophomore album Tabula Rasa, ‘Coop’ uses soothing beats with a sultry finish, giving a l l i e’s ethereal vocals the spotlight. The album serves as a means to connect to her ancestral roots and is rife with imaginative rich soundscapes.

Directed by fellow Canadian filmmaker Sara Elgamal, the video depicts the break of dawn as a l I i e takes centre stage visually as well as musically, engulfing viewers in her fluid choreography and enthralling aura. It uses a minimalist approach to highlight the detail and meticulousness of a l l i e’s image, a reflection of the track’s sophistication and expert layering from producer Birthday Boy.

The new album serves as an amalgamation of her collective experiences, taking material made across two years, a trip through Europe and a homecoming to Jamaica. In a statement about the deeply immersive LP, it was shared that it materialises a l l i e’s “desire to translate music’s healing properties through art’ and ‘enabled introspection, tapping into the musical sensibilities cultivated and nurtured through her childhood.”
