Elujay - Frequently [Video]
Providing us with effortless laid-back funk and good vibes is Oakland’s Elujay with a new single to soundtrack your summer. Merging influences from R&B, jazz and soul, the prolific 25-year-old gracefully fleets between genres while still maintaining his own unique sound. ‘Frequently’ is a track with polished production that expertly utilises cool echoing backing vocals over deep instrumental grooves.
“‘Frequently’ is a carefree black joy anthem about obtaining wealth in a currency, energy and love sense,” shares Elujay on the track. “It was made in the midst of the pandemic when people were deprived of financial means, social interactions and mental clarity. People around me were thinking of many money schemes or ways to acquire quick amounts of cash. My friends got me invested in the stock-market and crypto currency, and it was just a record inspired by that kind of energy. The energy also stemmed from breaking bread with your family and loved ones while seeing everyone around you prosper. I hope frequently is a jam people can run back this summer (especially at the bbq).”
Crkmvnt, his next full-length album, is set for release this year. Written in quarantine, its namesake is attributed to the process by which it was created. Sonically, Crkmvnt pulls from Elujay's roots & influences adding a contemporary twist.
