Newcomer DELPHii announces her debut EP 'Lilac' and unveils its hazy, neo-soul tinged title track.

The West Midlands-born, Newcastle-based Angelene Holmes AKA DELPHii has officially arrived on the scene to launch her solo career following years of working behind the scenes for other people’s projects. The name DELPHii comes from that of the Ancient Greek city that housed The Oracle of Delphi, one of the most powerful women in the classical world. Living up to the mysticism of her moniker, DELPHii’s first solo single is an ethereal lo-fi bop, laced with a hint of mystery and magic. Building from laid back bedtime beats into a tune that sparkles with energy, the track’s warm instrumentals and DELPHii’s smooth, airy vocals may have an upbeat feel, but the feel-good atmosphere belies the message found in its lyrics, which centre on the subject’s wish to sleep in order to escape their mental-health issues.

DELPHii explains, "Lilac has a few dimensions; on first glance, it is a love song about missing someone. Deciding to sleep the time away and hoping to find them in the dreams you have, but there's a sweet misery in choosing sleep to self-anaesthetize, escape reality. I think it is one of the biggest manifestations of depression I have ever felt in my life, I used to do that when everything became too much, just sleep. So it's about more than navigating love, it's about the self, and life, and the strange ways we learn to cope with that. Although it could mean something different to someone else, I don't know, I want people to hear the message that speaks to them and take what they need from my music."

DELPHii’s debut EP ‘Lilac’ will be out in Summer. For now, enjoy ‘Lilac’ below.
