Witness the dark splendour of Rachel Chinouriri’s mesmerising visuals for ‘Plain Jane’, a haunting track selected from her newly released debut album, ‘Four° In Winter’.

Once again melding impeccable, intricate production with those gorgeous wispy vocals, South London’s Rachel Chinouriri offers yet another intriguing, genre-defying tune that delves into the toxic nature of internalised misogyny. Directed by Aliyah Otchere, ‘Plain Jane’s entrancing video follows on from Chinouriri’s visuals for ‘Through The Eye’ and ‘Darker Place’. This particular cut captures Chinouriri dancing and singing in a series of stunning, gothic-leaning looks - including in one scene a snake draped round her neck. The beautifully haunting shots confirm that, on top of her extensive musical abilities, Chinouriri has a keen eye for powerful visual concepts that’ll make her shine.

Speaking on ‘Plain Jane’, Rachel explains, “I wanted to highlight my most toxic traits and battles I’ve experienced as a woman towards another woman. I feel like in society there is a pressure to be perfect and that comes from women being pitched against each other, usually for the approval of men. Men sometimes get away with so much as women fight each other and it’s a thing that I once used to think and had to unlearn when I was about 16/17. I realised I’m being made to feel worthless by someone who’s meant to care for me because they’ve picked someone else over me. I feel like societal beauty standards make looks a priority over character, but love works the opposite way and no matter how perfect you try and be, it might never be enough for someone (which you can tell near the end of the video).”
