There is absolutely no denying it has been an extremely tough 2020 so far but you know what, we move! As we officially hit the six month mark of the year, having pushed through extremely challenging and testing times, we must try our hardest to stay positive and uplifted. Music is very much a healing tool and we hope our new playlist offers calmness and peace of mind.

For our DISCOVER Picks Vol.3, we sprinkle a handful of tracks to emphasise our current reality and the very necessary need for change. We kick off with an acoustic version of Mereba’s ‘Heatwave’ featuring 6LACK, later followed by ‘Call Yourself a Lover’ by Janine and ‘I Can’t Breathe’ by H.E.R. Take a moment to listen to these tracks intently and whilst you enjoy them, allow the words and messages to expand your mind to the ongoing struggles of black people.

London based singer-songwriter Bellah released her four track EP ‘In The Meantime’ last week, delivering the most blissful collection of R&B songs. Her track ‘Good Thing’ speaks on the fears of a relationship potentially going wrong as things progress and just wanting to enjoy the moment as is. Detroit, Michigan born singer Jayla Darden’s ‘Demonstration’ hits perfectly, delivering a much loved fusion of 90’s R&B and bouncy hip hop, very reminiscent to the sounds of the late Aaliyah.

Closing out the playlist with a selection of tracks from the UK, we return with July 7 once again, as we simply cannot get enough of his vocal and overall musical offering. His track ‘Long Time No See’ takes an unexpected turn part way through, it’s simply genius. Our boy Che Lingo returns with his new single ‘Spaghetti,’ delivering his much known intricate rap, laced over an experimental hip hop production. We end the playlist with a legend in the making, Ghanaian-German rapper Series Klein, who teamed up with Drunken Masters to give us ‘Everyday Thursday.’

Enjoy!
