Spring Studios was transported to the shores of Grenada, for the opening of Felisha Noel’s debut at New York Fashion Week, for her Fe Noel ready-to-wear 2020 collection. A year ago the Brooklyn based, Grenada born designer embarked on a special journey to her home country, with the mission to create imagery resourcing raw Grenadian talent. Entitled ‘Daughter of the Soil’ a short film for the collection was created and became the opening piece to the designer’s runway show, delivering cultural reference and further intrigue to the collection upon us.

“It’s never too late for her to become her true true self. Like the billowing sails on a boat cruising the Caribbean Sea, she is connected yet free. She carries the DNA of her ancestors and is the past, present and future. Her presence is felt without a word because nostalgia seeps from her pores. Sensual, fluid and effortless.” Transcript from ‘Daughter of the Soil.’

The film uses Jab Jab culture as an artistic expression and metaphor, to represent freedom and the struggle you endure on the path to becoming your true self. Jab Jab is a unique tradition and an important aspect of national identity for Grenadian people.

The collection honed in on the expression of freedom, with loose and wide fitting silhouettes being the main focus throughout. Embodying light and floaty materials, such as sheer organza and silks across a spectrum of sultry pastel colours, clearly representing a spiritual journey of peace and harmony. The collection is both beautiful and comforting, creating the perfect pairing for serenity and sass.
