Gigi Wang brings her second collection entitled ‘Folk Story’ to New York Fashion Week this season and it’s most definitely a wonderful and colourful display of Chinese culture. Presented as part of the Global Fashion Collective, the inspiration for this season’s collection comes from ancient Chinese traditions; with parent - child costumes, used to express the inheritance of Chinese folk culture to the next generation. Gigi uses traditional fabrics such as Zhangrong, Xiangyunsha, brocade and silk combined with modern, environmentally - friendly and innovative fabrics, showing a continuum of history into the future. The designer uses three types of embroidery from different regions in China, each with a distinctive feature and historical background. A beautifully bold collection for women and children, displaying a wide palette of royal and shimmering colours.
